HAPPY 2014

HAPPY CHRISTMAS GABRIELLA

With lots of time left for Christmas, I finished stitching the stocking for little Gabriella.      I bought a joyful fabric and with the help of Pinterest I sewed my first stocking. I am very pleased it turned out so well. The next task is,  to buy some wrapping paper and wrap it and wait for the Christmas. Melissa a Canadian follower, http://stjohnsstitcher.blogspot.com

CHRISTMAS STOCKING

As promised a picture of the Christmas Stocking in progress. I downloaded the magazine Cross Stitch Crazy on my iPad mini.  I must admit it works really well.         This will be a farewell gift for my little neighbour girl Gabriella. The beginning of next year she and her parents will leave Rio.   They are going back to the States.                  the blog of one of my followers,                      http://tikistitches.blogspot.com

LITTLE CARDS

When I was in Holland I bought some cross stitch magazines and these little cards were freebies, actually  there were three , but i finished these two.  Its always nice to do something small when you're stitching a bigger project, at the moment I am stitching a christmas stocking. Pictures will follow. Wish you all a great day.             http://ofiltendre.blogspot.com a french follower with a lovely blog

EMBROIDERY CLASS

Yesterday I went to Santa Cruz about 60 kilometers from where I live, It is not an easy trip to come there. I have to take two busses and a taxi to visit the children in the home. For a couple of months the teachers of the public schools are on strike, so you can imagine the days can be long for the children and so now and then booooring !!!!! So I took some of my embroidery threads, needles, fabrics etc. with me and we had a lovely time and op top of that we were counting in English and singing in Dutch ( I don't know any english or portuguese children's songs).      This beauty is from Raquel, she was the only one who could do the cross stitch and it is not finished. Two boys were also stitching, Alexander made this wonderful airplane for me.  if you are interested in the home here is their Facebook page, unfortunately all in portuguese but there are some pictures.                                       https://www.facebook.com/abrigo.criancasam

MC QUEEN CAR

James of 3 years loves cars and especially those character cars from Disney. Its hard to find nice cross stitch patterns in Rio, so it is impossible to come a cross a Mcqueen car, luckily I found a tiny  chart on Pinterest. I cross stitched it in front of my laptop. I made a little bag so he can put is cars in it and take them to nursery without loosing his precious cars.

ORCHID

Two of my orchids are in full bloom aren't they beautiful.

DOLLS

I am not a really crafty person, but recently I made these two young ladies. Once in a fortnight my husband and I are visiting a home for abandoned, neglected children in Santa Cruz, about an hour from where we live. There are 23 children from the age 2 till 12 years. So these  two dolls will brighten up the bedroom for the girls.

BLUE AND WHITE

I love blue and white and this piece of embroidery would fit perfectly in my kitchen along with my blue and white china.                       Maybe one day????????? I will stitch  a similar project.                          http://berthi.textile                                              http://berthi.textile-collection.nl

COFFEE BREAK

When I walked down to the Guanabara supermarket  for my grocery shoppings,( once in a fortnight) I always stop by a little chocolate shop to drink a pingada ( expresso with steamed milk). To my surprise they are selling Dutch imported Stroopwafels. Ok they don't come cheap. I guess I paid 5 Euro for two.                                                        But it was worth' it.

DOGGIE IN THE WINDOW

On my walk to the cornershop this morning, I saw these  two beauties, and I couldn't resist to make a picture.

HEART

A card for my sweet daughter, I have sent it  a few weeks ago, but forgot to post it.

HANS SPEKMAN BRUG

My daughter Myrthe is recently moved to the city of Utrecht in Holland.  On my first walking trip to the centre of Utrecht I saw this beauty, a KNITTED BRIDGE The bridge is temporary and is named after an politician, apparently he wore mostly knitted sweaters.

HOLLAND

This evening I will fly from Rio de Janeiro direction Amsterdam, with a stopover at Frankfurt Airport. Myrthe -my daughter-  will pick me up from Schiphol Amsterdam, but before we are heading towards  her place. We are going to "Het Panoramaterras " and have our traditional'  appeltaart with cappuccino.                                               I would say see you again in 15 days.                                                            lots of  love Alice

YUMAK

A cross stitch magazine all the way from Turkey. It contains great patterns  and ideas. I am so pleased, even my husband loved it, --of course he is turkish--, always handy with translation.  Next time we visit Turkey I have a mission, buying this wonderful magazine.                              THANK YOU SO MUCH,  TEÅžEKKÃœR EDERIM,  NURDAN.                                                             one of my projects will be to stitch the evil eye.

FOR TARA

A little token of appreciation for my dear friend Tara.

MAGAZINES

My friend and neighbour Tara made a trip to New York and look what she bought for me.                                   Cross stitch magazines. That was a big surprise so thoughtful  of her,  a big thank you and as we say in Brasil                                    OBRIGADA.

HELEN ADELAIDE LAMB

Helen Adelaide Lamb. Embroidered panel, c1909.   Wonderful stitching and a beautiful design; Art Nouveau?, It reminds me  of Charles Rennie Mackintosh who was  also scottish and lived in the same period.   http://thetextileblog.blogspot.com

COASTER

I needed a big coaster for my mug tea or coffee next to my computer. It is  not a perfect round circle. Well actually it is a kind of try out or as we say in dutch: een broddellap. I first dyed the fabric and than drew the design with  pencil onto the fabric and filled it in with different kind of stitches from the stitching bible.  I it is not the best piece I made but it does do the job. I would say cheers.

50 YEARS

My sister Marga is having her birthday and she will be 50 years.  Instead of sending her a card I made her an apron. So she can cook in style from now on.  I am so sorry I am not  in Holland for this milestone, it would be so great with all the family The good thing is, I will be flying next month to Holland. HAPPY BIRTHDAY dear sister HIEP HIEP HOERA
